Employers can begin applying the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy beginning April 27. The wage subsidy has been put in place to enable employers to rehire workers who were previously laid off as a result of COVID-19, to help prevent further job losses and to put employers in a better position to resume normal operations after the pandemic. The subsidy provides for payment of 75% of an employees wages, up to a maximum of $847 per week, for a period of 12 weeks, retroactive to March 15. Eligibility for the subsidy is determined based on a revenue reduction of 15% in March and 30% in April and May. Applications are made through the CRA.
